Sustainable Solution Description
Improving sustainability across the packaging supply chain is one way DPDHL will achieve its goals of net zero emissions by 2050. To achieve our 2030 interim goals of 42% scope 1 & 2 reduction and 25% less logistics-related scope 3, DHL is investing €7 billion.
DHL Supply Chain enables packaging sustainability and CO2 emission reductions through three primary areas:
- Materials: research and collaborate with suppliers and customers to introduce more sustainable packaging materials and components, including circular, reusable and returnable solutions.
- Technology: smart packaging tools to optimize materials use and efficiency of builds to reduce waste and improve transportation.
- Process: evaluate the end-to-end packaging supply chain, including manufacturing, shipping, materials, network design and packaging designs to identify systemic sustainability opportunities such as in-DC packaging to eliminate transportation-related emissions.
